Fire destroyed the Schroeder Hardware Store near Drake University in Des Moines. Cans of paint and varnish exploded during a 53 hour battle to control the flames. Firemen issued three special alarms but could not save the one story building.

Kalona Woman Dies In Iowa City Hospital
Dana Allen age 70 of Kalona died Sunday afternoon at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after a three week stay. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3 pm at Kalona Methodist Church with Rev. E Edward Philgreen in charge. Burial is in Shar on Hill Cemetery. She was born August 21 1890 near Kalona daughter of Perry and Phoebe Lemley.
