Professor C. Wy lie, head of the University of Iowa astronomy department, will observe meteor showers from an airplane a remote country spot and a city this month. The aim is to study how atmospheric clarity affects the visibility of shooting stars.
A Burlington couple sought a marriage license in Oquawka Illinois after midnight. Justice Robert Meloan Jr sent them to deputy clerk Frank Wood who waited until 1 40 a m. for the couple to decide if they should wed. The bride objected and they left without marriage.
Keokuk voters approve a municipal water works project by 2,591 to 1,948. The council may buy the current plant, a subsidiary of American Water Works Corp., or build a new system.
Prof Grant Wood of the University of Iowa art department is commissioned to create four paintings of Midwest types for a special edition of Sinclair Lewis Main Street. The edition is to be published by Limited Editions Club in New York City.
Burlington and Des Moines county receive WPA approval for a farmery auditorium on the water front at Burlington costing 527 084 with 477 084 in WPA funds. Total Burlington Des Moines county construction program 625 628 and a treasury warrant enables L S S Hill to start projects totaling 6 880 482.
Clinton V Miller and Luella Hinrichsen faces a rectification after a Rockford ceremony used an incorrect Lee county license. A re enacted ceremony is set for Dixon with witnesses Mr and Mrs J D Blair and Rev R N Joscelyn. Miller joked about marrying the same woman twice in four days.
Walter Admire seeks 10000 dollars in district court against Anthon town claiming injuries after Constable Ned Hildreth kicked him from behind on April 14 as he walked the main street. Admire says the blow caused a severe hemorrhage and alleges provocation.
Freeman Alberts hooked a Mexican axolotl about 12 inches long near Pluffton while fishing the Upper Iowa river. The mud dog, light brown with darker knots and a dark growth on its gills, is native to Mexican lakes and marshes and rarely seen in northern waters according to locals.

New York gangster Arthur Flegenheimer known as Dutch Schultz and his bodyguard were wounded in a Newark and New York shooting spree that killed two of his men. Police launched a nationwide roundup and investigated a possible female instigator as Schultz lingered in critical condition.

Funeral services for Jasper L. Neiswanger who died at Mt Pleasant will be held from L A Jones funeral home at 2 pm Saturday. Burial at Elm Grove cemetery. He was a Spanish war veteran and carpenter born Sept 10 1876 in Marion township. He leaves relatives in Washington Berger Texas La Habra Calif Topeka Bettendorf and Elmo in Washington.

Judge Frank Bechly suspended a three month county jail sentence, parole to Sheriff Harold M. Putnam, following a Sunday pickup by Patrolman James Gilroy on highway 161 near Ainsworth. Walters’ companion Sylvester Corso pleaded guilty to drinking on a public highway and was fined $25 and costs.
Rev. T. C. Meibohm of Washington and Rev. Waldemar E. Hinck of Wellman will join the Missouri Synod Lutheran Pastors conference in Van Horne, southeastern Iowa, Tuesday through Thursday. Hinck will preach Wednesday evening. Meibohm will present the third installment of a paper on Melanchthon.
Des Moines reports state superintendent Agnes Samuelson will decide in two to three weeks on the Walter Clark Perry superintendent case. The dispute began when high school teacher Frances Giltner accused Clark of improper conduct, leading to her dismissal and a lasting school board power struggle.
The Comptroller of the Currency authorized WPA administrators in Iowa to proceed with 10 projects across eight counties Black Hawk Delaware Linn Wapello Scott Woodbury Polk and Pottawattamie. The plan will employ 1591 men and aims to provide work for 10000 by Monday with an estimated total cost of 1286000. Works progress officials began transferring workers from relief registration to certified lists.
