Prayers May Be Said In Local Languages by Clergy
The Vatican council approved a plan allowing bishops to permit Roman Catholic clergy to say the daily divine office in their own languages rather than Latin. The change requires individual bishop approval and preserves Latin usage for most cases. The vote reached 1904 to 131, surpassing the two thirds needed, marking the final major amendment to a liturgical reform document discussed since 1962.
