Policeman Killed While Arresting Escaped Convict in Chicago
Chicago AP report says Officer Charles Annerino 30 was shot at a North Side tavern while trying to question escaped convict Agostino Amedeo 26. Annerino died at Ravenswood Hospital. Amedeo fled, gun found in an areaway. Amedeo had escaped June 28 from the Criminal Courts Building on burglary charges. He had been bloodlessly shot at earlier chase, bullets fired by fellow officers but no blood on clothing. Annerino recently promoted to robbery detail based on an aggressive record. He left a widow and two children.

Navy crew members formed a memorial fund in John Phillip Blackmer’s name to support a deserving student’s medical education. Blackmer, Hospital Corps man Third Class, died while serving aboard the U S S Achernar. He was the son of Mrs. Marie Blackmer of Casey Iowa and Clyde L Blackmer of Washington D C. The fund was sent to the American Medical Education Foundation, a nonprofit of the AMA.
