Three Killed When Car Hits Bus Near Mt. Pleasant Today
A head on crash on highway 4 near Mount Pleasant left three Ottumwa residents dead and one critically injured. The car's driver James Potter 23 and passengers Dick Dann 18 Billy Bennett 19 died. Ronald Dyer 19 survived unhurt. Four bus passengers suffered minor injuries. Authorities cite out of control vehicle as cause. In Indianola a separate crash on highway 92 near Martensdale killed Laura Hurst Farris 60 of Fort Worth Texas and BE L Stewart who later died at a Des Moines hospital.

Lewis M. Baker 87 of 609 North Avenue B died Sunday morning after a two week illness. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home with Rev. T C Polk officiating. Burial follows at Elm Grove Cemetery. He was born in Virginia in 1864, married Laura Jackson in 1986, and lived in Washington for 50 years.
