Estherville and Esthervine dispatchers are to relocate to Cedar Rapids on November 1 to complete the consolidation of Rock Island offices at the decel point.
Dr. E. Hunt of Mt. Pleasant Iowa was chosen president at the closing session of the eastern Iowa veterinary association's twenty third annual convention held Wednesday.
John Middlecoop of Oskaloosa won the Malaska county corn husking bee with 1761.1 pounds net. Barney Memmelaar placed second with 1650.9 pounds and Tracy Stewart finished third with 1581.6 pounds.
Sibley Adolph Folkers, age 31, died when his sheepskin coat became entangled in a two row corn picker on the John Knock farm near Melvin Ja. Knock found Folkers’ body and said the man was dragged into the machinery.
A 60-foot steel bridge on a town ship road near Muscatine collapsed midafternoon Wednesday under the weight of a 10-ton truck towing three wagons. The span, built 42 years ago, sat about 15 feet above a creek bed and crew workers narrowly escaped injury.
Oscar Hugelen aged 47 a farm laborer died after stepping into a road to signal an approaching car and was struck by an auto from the opposite direction The vehicle was driven by A B Trueblood The incident occurred early Monday and the death occurred last night authorities said
A district court jury in Le Mars awarded Mrs. A. M. Ross of Fargo North Dakota $650 for injuries when the car she rode in hit a pavement bump. The verdict was returned Wednesday against the city of Le Mars.
Des Moines meteorologist Charles D. Reed said corn husking is getting under way in earnest across much of Iowa. He noted many farmers with poor fields or husking machines have finished. Scattered yield reports show wide variance with moisture content much lower than last year.

They failed to breach an inner safe and hampered by prints investigation was begun with J G Gladstone dispatched to check the scene.
Washingtons Amateur Night opening tonight has been indefinitely postponed due to lack of entrants and conflicts with other home talent entertainment. The Y's Men's Amateur Night committee cited insufficient interest and undecided on rescheduling. The one dollar entry fees will be refunded to applicants.

A white man and a Black man a woman and a five year old girl were sought Wednesday in Muscatine police search for a racket in which they obtained 15 dollars and six five gallon cans of paint from a local store. The woman and child reportedly engaged the proprietor in a back room while the men raided the front room.

Six people were hurt, one seriously, when an automobile skidded on gravel and overturned on Route 16 two miles southwest of Augusta Tuesday evening. Mrs Diton, seriously hurt with chest injuries, was taken to Sacred Heart hospital in Fort Madison. The others in the car—her husband, Miss Fay Kollar, John Kollar, Miss Maxine Kollar, and Mrs L Yale—suffered minor injuries.
County Treasurer Marion George reports September tax receipts of 171 614 43 dollars, bringing year to date collections to 549 363 63. The total annual levy stands at 703 040 53 with a statewide refund to Washington County of 106 261 15. Delinquent list likely similar to last year. notices will be sent before the annual sale.
Two men described as polite robbed the Neil Drug Store in Des Moines at 12:30 a.m. They bound and gagged proprietor William R. Neill, who freed himself about ten minutes after the pair fled. The suspects were about 25 years old.

Word reaches the city of the accidental death of Billy Schmoldt in an automobile wreck in Oklahoma about a week ago. He was husband of Gertrude Ward Schmoldt, daughter of Charles Ward, former local residents. The Ward family lived here years ago and were active Presbyterians. Mrs. Charles Ward, Clara May, is one of Deacon Nicholas Smith’s four daughters. The Journal thanks Mrs. L. S. Patterson for news of the death.
Berry F. Halden republican candidate for United States senator will speak in Washington October 27 after a Davenport luncheon. The Washington county republican central committee booked the date and expects a large turnout as Halden tours Iowa.
Washington reports a 31 degree low the coolest fall reading as 48 degree daytime high followed a 80 degree day. Des Moines forecasts a general hard freeze statewide tonight with Sioux City at 22 degrees and southeast cities Davenport and Keokuk at 34. Meteorologist Charles Reed warns shippers of potential 15 to 22 degree temperatures across regions.
