Woman in Dead Wins Law Battle in Grundy County

In Grundy Center on October 22, after eight years and 240 acres of land plus about $12,000, the Iowa supreme court ruled in favor of Folka Frerichs’s heirs, including her daughter Kennungunda Arends, over a contest of an inheritance dating to the 1870s. The will provided a complex equal-share provision among four children and the daughter’s claim was thus resolved in her mother’s favor. The estate is valued near $75,000, and the daughter will inherit an equal share with the other children. The case has a long history of trials from 1915 through the high court’s decision Tuesday.
