Florence Baird of 25 Cedar Drive after a downtown hit and fractures pelvis. reentered Washington County Hospital after brief Home Health Center stay. Doctors estimate about three weeks of hospital care. The piece also notes retirements, visits, and local social events at the Home.
Mrs Lynde spoke to the United Methodist Women Evening Circle at the home of Mrs June Dodder. She described the New Hope Home for young girls. Corinne Connelly appointed an anniversary committee and several officers were elected for the coming year. A collection for the County Home was taken and the circle will furnish pies for the County Fair on Nov 16. Twenty three members and guests were served refreshments.
The Rev and Mrs Ray Blair hosted a Reformed Presbyterian Family Night dinner at the church on Wednesday evening. Tables carried a fall theme arranged by Mrs Ralph Wilson. Cindy Hiller provided entertainment for children and Dr George Kerr attended as a guest.
Rev and Mrs W H Ross traveled through Kansas and nearby states as floods swept southwest Iowa Nebraska Kansas and Oklahoma. Roads flooded water over highways forced detours and made travel slow. They met relatives in Iowa and Kansas and saw two great grandchildren in Dodge City while on their tour.
In Redding California a police dog named Honcho bit a night-intruder Sam McCall, saying the candidate was a burly German shepherd. McCall noted Honcho was too big for hopping in and out of police cars, so the dog did not get the job.

The engagement of Marcia A McKinney to Robert V Lintz is announced by their parents Mr and Mrs Fred J McKinney of Moline Illinois and Mr and Mrs Virgil L Lintz of Washington. The couple plans a spring wedding. Miss McKinney is a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital Davenport and a graduate of Alleman High School and Black Hawk College. Mr Lintz is a Rock Island public accountant and a St Ambrose College graduate with Air Force service.
Social events listed include Saturday Shirts and Skirts at 11 p.m. with a square dance at Legion Hall and refreshments. Monday meetings cover Golden Age Club, DeMolay events, and Masonic Temple gatherings. Tuesday schedules feature Stewart School Open House, Cedar Two Farm Bureau Women, Tops Club, YWCA activities with speakers, crafts, swimming, and nursery services. midweek includes White Shrine and BPW Club dinners, plus Cedar Township Farm Bureau Women. Wednesday Navajo Club hosts breakfast at Winga's Cafe.
Washington Public Library notes feature Kate Greenaway illustration displays by Mrs. Don Wells and Chris Wells, upcoming Homecoming queen displays, and renewed interest in new titles by Marcus Bach, Mircea Eliade, and Ra Rita Dallas. It covers National Book Week events November 13 17 with reviews in the Main Reading Room.
Mr and Mrs Marion Sheetz returned home after a tour through eastern states and into Canada. In Pennsylvania they visited Mrs Faye Weller and grandchildren and the Earl Weller family.
Washington High School art students now have six courses to choose from an expansion that adds New Metalwork Sculpture Ceramics Printmaking Film Making and Drawing Painting to the existing Art I II III. The instructor Mr W Carlton Bump has prepared the new lineup, allowing students to specialize in fields of interest.
Mrs Walter Horning hosted the HH Club Thursday afternoon with members sharing memories of past harvests and their helping roles. Refreshments were served by the hostess. Mrs Wilfred Greiner is to entertain at the November 15 meeting at her home.
