Accused Man Not A Boy Scout Leader

Area Boy Scout officials said Allen Forrester a former Californian held in the Washington County jail on sodomy charges is not and never has been a registered Boy Scout official. Records show he never registered as a leader and the national office lists him as an undesirable leader. Local leaders replaced him with a qualified leader for the Explorer post.

Two Washington Dealers to Aid Community Chest Drive

Bob Darbyshire and Les Worley of the D W Cities Service station in Washington announce plans to support the Community Chest drive. They will donate two cents per gallon of gasoline sold on Friday October 21 and ten percent of proceeds from all accessories sold that day to the campaign.

Vernon E. Wittrig of Washington is elected Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Iowa I O O F. Installed tonight at the grand encampment in Des Moines. Khrushchev claims Soviet nuclear powered submarines

Premier Khrushchev told a New York audience the Soviet Union has atomic powered submarines armed with rockets and urged restraint in the cold war. He warned Western disarmament moves risk war and praised head of state participation in the General Assembly.

Country Club Board Members Elected

Clint Stewart Bob Robertson and John Lievd were named to three year terms on the Washington Country Club board at the annual dinner. Ed Sorrell drew a one year term to fill Loren Day’s unexpired term. Women’s board members were Mrs John Phieger and Mrs Bob Robertson. Seventy four members attended the dinner and meeting as improvements to the clubhouse were discussed and another vote meeting was proposed.

Kiwanis Club to Help On Halloween Party

Washington Kiwanis Club voted to participate in the annual community Halloween party. Rev. Fred Penny, pastor of the African Methodist churches in Iowa City and Washington, spoke at the YMCA meeting. Guests included Ralph Ward Russell Swenson of Ames and Jim Truss of Wapello.

U S Insignia On Cuban Planes

Havana sources say five Cuban Air Force fighters were painted with U S insignia at San Antonio de los Banos airfield over the weekend. Farm girl killed and brother injured after school bus exit

In Rockwell City Iowa an eight year old girl Kristi Babbitt died when struck by Lawrence E Harvey 46 Fort Dodge and Clare as she crossed Highway 17 after leaving a school bus. Her seven year old brother Michael suffered a fractured leg and head cuts and is in good condition at a Fort Dodge hospital. Sheriff George Dahlke filed a manslaughter charge and prepared a drunken driving charge against Harvey who is jailed on $2000 bond awaiting a hearing.
