Vote on County Conservation Board in Washington County
Voters will decide on Nov 6 whether to establish a county conservation board of five residents serving without pay. The issue allows the board to manage parks forests and recreation sites with a levy of 0.25 to 1.0 mill and no debt beyond annual funds. William Davis Eckerman 77 died in his sleep at his Wellman area home after six months of ill health. Funeral services are set for Sunday at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Wellman with Rev. Herman C. Rice of Kalona presiding. Burial will be in Wellman Cemetery. A Lincoln Neb born farmer lived most of life in Wellman. Survived by daughter Mrs Jake Litwiller, two grandchildren Bill Litwiller and Jim Litwiller, five great grandchildren, and other relatives.

Ross Electronics Corp has completed the purchase of land near the north edge of Washington just north of the railroad tracks and west of Riverside Washington paving. Richard Higgins, manager of the Washington plant, said plans will proceed immediately though start date is not definite. Separately, United Auto Workers officials filed a protest over the recent plant elections in Washington and Burlington, with employees again voting against the union.

Butler couple file 76823 damage suit over 1960 crash
An Austin Minnesota couple and a Lee County defendant filed a damage suit in the county clerk’s office seeking 76823 after a Oct 9 1960 collision on highway 218 north of its junction with highway 92 near Ainsworth. Mrs Butler drove a 1960 station wagon pulling a trailer with Mr Butler behind in a truck. The suit alleges negligent operation of a Fox driven auto caused the crash.

Koch Estate Trial Ends After 11 Day Deliberation
The 11 day Koch estate case in District Court ended at 2 30 this morning with a verdict for the Koch estate on three counts. Elmer and Lucille Koch sought 24620 and 9000 for nursing care, but were denied on the first two counts and awarded 2500 on nursing care. They were ordered to pay nearly 5000 in unpaid rent. Clarence Goff of Washington is administrator.
