Four Bandits Take Over $11,000 In Daring Burglary

Four bandits in coveralls and army masks robbed the Laona State Bank at 3:20 a.m. taking about $11,690. They escaped in a two tone Oldsmobile under the watch of a sixth robber outside, while the bank staff and two assistants cowered on the floor. The Milwaukee FBI office will investigate with agents sent to Laona to pursue suspects including a teenage bandit.

UN Troops Close In On Flaming Kum Song Front

UN forces advanced within two miles of Kum Song after driving through Korean territory. Tanks and infantry pounded the highway junction city area as Chinese troops dug in for a last stand. Heavy artillery and air raids intensified the battle as UN units pressed from three directions toward Kum Song and its surrounding valley.

Robison Buys Brighton Feed and Cafe Site

Dwight Robison of Brighton has purchased the Hotle Feed and Grain store and will take possession November 1. He also bought the R H Tracy building that housed the Jake and Ruth cafe and will operate the feed store from that location.

OPS Officials Check Local Firm's Records in Washington

Representatives of the Office of Price Stabilization checked records at Chamberlin Bro. Sport Shop in Washington. The OPS sought a temporary injunction over delayed filing of pricing charts, a Davenport court denied it, and a hearing was set for October 26 to pursue a permanent injunction amid suspected past or future price ceiling violations by the store.

UN Refuses Action on Iran Crisis at UN Security Council

The United Nations Security Council postponed the Anglo Iranian oil dispute ruling after Yugoslavia withdrew support for a British resolution calling for renewed Anglo Iranian negotiations. With the seven votes needed for a majority unavailable, the council postponed until the International Court of Justice at The Hague rules on its own competence and UN authority in the case.

Admits He Killed His Foster Mother

In Clearwater Florida a 16 year old with pimples and a sobbing account to police confessed to killing his socialite foster mother Mrs Mary Pett in Minneapolis. Pett 51 wife of the railroad retirement board regional manager was reportedly picked on by the youth who said she forced him to attend church and that he had planned for two years to kill her or himself. He was seized near Clearwater with a friend yesterday and signed a written confession.

Red Cross Approves Resuscitator Funding for Firemen

The Red Cross governing board approved funds for a resuscitator to aid Washington county firemen. The device will be available countywide to handle suffocation or drowning cases near Lake Darling. The board, with 16 members present, also approved the fiscal budget and appointed Louis J. Kehoe to replace Earle Libe who resigned. President Mrs Nate Young presided.

AEC announced a postponement of a planned nuclear detonation at Frenchman Flat Las Vegas due to a mechanical fault in a key electrical circuit between the control point and the tower.
