Paris reports say Waldeck-Rousseau delays eight hour decision until a parliamentary commission rules. He notes pensions may be discussed in a general workers pension bill and wage talks should be between miners and employers.
Washington October 19. The industrial commission published its report on labor disputes and arbitration detailing testimony on collective bargaining conciliation and arbitration and laws governing labor unions. It notes strong local systems in building trades brewery boot and shoe baking wood working and metal trades with most agreements between unions and individual employers.
Extraordinary event reports a base-burner coal stove left closed since April at William R. McCracken home in South Bend Indiana. When started again in October the coal remained intensely hot with some smoking dust upon air exposure, astonishing the family after months of disuse. The account is vouched as fully factual.

Hannah Williams, 12, was kidnapped after alighting from a Chicago and Alton train at Union station. She claimed a masked man chloroformed her in Springfield, took her to Chicago in a passenger coach, and promised to make her a street singer. In Kenosha on October 19 Adam Ryan of Chicago defeated Joe Percente of Milwaukee as a mob surged toward referee Sig Hart. Percente dominated but Hart awarded the decision to Ryan prompting police intervention. Promoter Kid Harvard refused to pay Ryan and said bets were off after the volatile finish.
The receiver of the defunct Citizens' National Bank of Niles plans to sue former bank directors to recover 16000 loaned to the Niles Gas Light company in 1892. No interest was paid after May 2, 1898, and collectors failed to pursue the debt. The claim against the gas company is now outlawed.
Rock Island Illinois October 19 Augustana college and theological seminary celebrated the installation of Dr Gustav Andreen as president and S G Youngert Ph D as professor of theology. The insignia of office were conferred by Dr E Novelius of Vasa Minnesota president of Augustana synod.
Kokomo Indiana October 18 Allen Shewman a local capitalist and electric railway builder operating in Illinois Indiana Michigan and Wisconsin is missing and feared dead. He was last seen September 15 in Kokomo after saying he would return from Chicago the next day.

Captain Hannan the chief engineer boarded the collier Merrimac May 27 and removed the valve gear of its intermediate cylinders. It was repaired aboard the Brooklyn and returned to the Merrimac that evening. The ship retained four or five knots without the gear. Lieutenant Carter testified the Brooklyn sped from eleven and a half to fourteen knots during the fight on July 6.
The body of Arthur Bryant of Lowdon, in this county, arrived in Loam and was buried Wednesday after being found dead in a Guthrie barn. He was struck on the head with a club, and the death is ruled murder. Two suspects are under arrest in Guthrie as investigators pursue motives tied to land claims.
