An official Hankow dispatch says German ships Leipzig Tiger and Veterland with volunteers fight Chi nese mobs in Hankow. In Pekin rebels offer 1000 taels for ex Vice Roy Yui Cheng’s capture after Wu Chang fell. Manchu women adopt Chinese dress to survive while rebels slaughter Manchus in the south.
Berlin reports the German far eastern squadron commander has been ordered to Kowloon to become the senior naval officer on site and likely take supreme command of foreign warships and any international landing parties. Japanese Admiral Kiwashima commands the joint forces.
London dispatch reports the run on Shanghai native banks continues with depositors demanding dollars for eight days. Promises of funds from Hong Kong and Canton have failed to reassure savers as foreign banks agree to assist local institutions.
