Des Moines reports show Iowa state assets at 88 million with total assets at 164.9 million and liabilities of 16.27 million for the year ending June 30 1929. Decreases in the general and primary road funds largely explain the net drop while fixed assets rose and buildings and structures total nearly 98.3 million.
President J. W. Enslin announced the Better Washington Club will hold its regular meeting one week from tomorrow, Friday October 20, postponed due to the county Red Cross dinner at the Y M C A. Discussion will include possible establishment of an airport in Washington.
Judge Frank Bechly ruled in two October term matters. In L A Andrew versus First State Bank of Riverside with Washington Loan and Trust as intervenor, the court overruled objections to the receiver's report and claim classifications and dismissed the intervention petition. In Bridget McCarty and Johnny Carty executors versus Tom Itanante, the plaintiff awarded 174.49 plus interest and costs for hogs bought from a third party and mortgaged to the plaintiff.
State highway commission bulletin announces contracts for bridges on Primary Road No. 161 between Ainsworth and the Johnson county line. Award date set for October 29 and details include multiple pony truss and I-beam spans.
The National grain and feed dealers association closed its annual meeting endorsing the Farm Board. Resolutions praised harmony with the board and its aim to secure top prices for farmers. A motion urged freight-rate reductions. Elected officers include Bert C. Dow president S P Mason first vice president and George E K Booth second vice president with Clifford C Beltz elected director.

Grinnell officials report Gary Cooper the Paramount star and former Grinnell College student will attend the diamond jubilee airport dedication and the Grinnell Washington University homecoming events October 18 19 and 20. Cooper travels from Kansas City to Grinnell arriving Friday morning will speak at the airport program and stay for the Grinnell Washington University game at Ward's field.

Lamar, Colo. Oct. 17 Howard L. Royston six foot Californian was given a death sentence for his role in the May $219,000 Lamar bank robbery during which four men were murdered. George J. Abshier had already received a similar sentence. Ralph Fleagie will go to trial Tuesday.
A Wisconsin boy Norman J. Rada and an Ohio girl Bertha Cain were named the most typical representatives of farm youth at the National Dairy Show. Chosen from 600 4-H club members across farming states, the pair highlighted farm youth during the event in St Louis.
Leland Eitel aged 10 was killed when he darted across a street and was struck by a car driven by J Collins a Black man. Witnesses said the boy was playing with others when he ran into the road and into the vehicle’s path.
