Washington reports the federal trade commission finds the five big Chicago packers control over 200 foods unrelated to meat, rivaling meat substitutes. It questions economies, price effects, and potential social impact while detailing poultry, dairy, lard, vegetables, fish, coffee, and other commodities under packer influence.

Libby company posts a 225 percent sales increase in 1918 from 1915 with canned salmon rising from 4.0 to 9.7 percent of world pack by 1915. Paris reports the supreme council of the peace conference choosing Sir George Clerk to represent it in Budapest. He will pursue the Romanian government over its occupation of Hungary. The decision follows a warning from the allied mission in Budapest urging immediate Romanian withdrawal.

Lieutenant Maynard engine crank shaft failed near Wahoo Nebraska forcing a cornfield landing. The air service will permit him to continue if a replacement plane can be found in time.
A gang of seven men in a touring car robbed the First National Bank of Roselle injuring a policeman in a running firefight. One robber was wounded and escaped with about seven thousand dollars in cash.
