New York dispatch reports District Attorney Jerome railing at labor leaders while claiming no party ties. He denounces professionals in religion and labor, insists on delivering no votes, and clashes with Sam Parks aide Mullaney who charges forged credentials.
Jerome paints Parks as a ruthless graftor who kept workers from earning money and caused fear among men who spoke of suffering at his hands. He recalls feeling bitterness and anger toward Parks and imagines confronting him violently if given the chance. The piece also notes Ivins issuing an open letter outlining reform proposals to Hearst and Mc Clellan.
The Journal reports the Sioux City to Ashland line will be operated by the Burlington, marking the formal entry of the Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad into Sioux City and connecting the Great Northern and Burlington systems.

He said elimination could add at least 3000 votes for the constitution.
Bert Lyon of Mount Sterling Indiana was crushed to death in a sewer cave-in in Dayton Ohio on October 16. N. 8. Watkins of Dayton was badly hurt.
In Bordeaux on October 16 the hospital directors returned to their duties after the institution's directors granted their demands, ending the strike by medical staff.
Henry Watterson, veteran Kentucky editor, still wields a trenchant pen at sixty five. Known as Marie Henry, he has long been a journalist, orator and politician. He served as a staff officer in the Confederate army during the Civil War.

Official notices from Paris and Washington confirm the completion of Russia’s part, with evacuation of Manchurian troops and remarks on prisoner exchanges. Missouri Governor Folk travels to Philadelphia for a speech on honest municipal conduct. Six men including City Clerk Mooney indicted in Joliet Illinois on ballot frauds. William Barrett Ridgely of Chicago to succeed himself as Comptroller of the Currency. John A Drake wins 40000 at Belmont Park first race. New York City board of education seeks over 25000000.

Dubuque Iowa October 16 Speaker Henderson is reported much better. His physicians say he is in better condition than at any time in the last two weeks. Henderson's mind is blank and he talks incoherently. His wife wrote a letter from Cedar Falls stating he cannot possibly live more than a month.
Goshen Indiana October 16 Professor Robert L Greene of Notre Dame University is held to appear before the federal grand jury in Indianapolis on November 14 on the charge of sending scurrilous and defamatory matter through the mails He pleaded not guilty posted a 200 dollar bond and was released returning to South Bend after the hearing before the grand jury.
A garbled report describes United States Commissioner Merkey and Windsor case details involving a postal card to Sheriff O L Peck. The text references Mrs Mary Bogers and Mary Rogers, with a quoted instruction from "ROBERT L. GREENE" urging against murder despite legal backing.
Pittsburg Oct 16 The McMahon borough board of education amid white and colored tension opened a separate dim Crow school for black children claiming legality while denying access to public schools. The Afro American Republican League obtained a writ of mandamus to stop segregation, returnable next Friday. Mrs Booth at Joliet Penitentiary Oct 1 The Prison Volunteer League anniversary was celebrated with Maud Booth addressing 1,400 inmates.
Joliet fire gutted the stock yards of the Chicago Rock Island and Pacific railway on October 16. The yards were empty except for a newly built sheep annex. total loss estimated at $10,000.

A heavy east bound freight on the Iowa Central failed to see a cow on the tracks near Oskaloosa Ohio on October 16. Five railroad workers including engineers George A Caffal and Harry Summers and firemen Harry Barr L J Briley PT Morgan died in the crash and ensuing fire. Briley lived in Monmouth Illinois while others resided in Oskaloosa. The cow lay between rails hidden by herd scenery and caused the derailed locomotives to pile into a ditch. The crash also injured and killed several nearby residents assisting at the scene.
A grand stand fire at the Bucyrus county fair caused a chain reaction of evacuations and a fast moving blaze. Spectators fled the exits as the stand burned within minutes, spreading to the horticultural hall and other exhibit buildings, destroying banners, stables, and equipment.
Three Toledo men, Rudolph Leser, Alexander Koseko, and Stephen Pestok, set out from Presque Isle in a rowboat to fish. They were capsized by a passing freighter on Lake Hiawatha and were rescued by the crew of the steamer Fayette Brown in Detroit after being benumbed and exhausted.
In St. Joseph Missouri on October 16 James Stanfield was shot and killed when returning from a hunting trip his companions discharged their rifles near home Elza Hodge and Frank Bartlett were arrested and police search for Andy McWilliams.
