He opposed the miners’ union disparagement and the time limit for a strike, arguing the president should name arbitrators without miner or owner restrictions.

A man named Henry Dawson threatened Mrs. Watkins in New York on October 1 claiming a bag of dynamite would be dropped if diamonds were not handed over. Mrs. Watkins cried out, Dawson fled with an empty bag and a revolver. police arrested him for trial in Marquette, Michigan.
In Texas a sheriff and his posse fled mobs pursuing James Buchanan, a self confessed Hicks family killer. Buchanan was captured near Nacogdoches and moved to safety in Rush Texas to avoid lynching. He was jailed in Logansport Louisiana before being sent to Rush.
Chicago Oct. 16 A dramatic accusation labels Hugenet Bradford a perjurer and bigamist for twenty seven years and a deserter dating back nearly forty years, casting doubt on a long marriage.
Bradford, 57, of Kineton Texas, arrested on perjury charge after denying acquaintance with a Knoxville woman who claimed to be his wife and widow of Eugene L Bradford. The pension review traced back to a 1865 Knoxville visit and a 27 year-old marriage prior to the war era.
In Ann Arbor Michigan Colonel Henry B Dean proposes a city appropriation of 20000 to buy timber and cut wood for sale at cost to fuelless residents. Mayor Copeland calls a council session to discuss. Kalamazoo Plan suggests a city coal yard and price controls to aid the poor. Pontiac reports condemn greed in coal trading.
R G Leeds son of W B Leeds, president of the Chicago Rock Island and Pacific railway, arrives in New York from Panama where he was seized by the U S consul. The 16 year old and former military academy cadet sought Colombia amid insurgent war. He went from the steamer to the family home on Fifth Avenue where his mother lay ill from his disappearance.
Frank Werner reports locating heirs in St. Paul to an estate of $900000 based in Providence Ro 1. Among the heirs are Mary A Geer a Seventh Street department store buyer and Margaret Geer who keeps house for her sister. Two St. Paul brothers married and living in RK. 1 also listed. In Indianapolis Indiana the coal operators raise the price of bituminous coal by 110 cents a ton, making mine price exceed $5.
The Union League club on Oct 16 announced plans to erect a new clubhouse at a cost of $1,000,000 and to purchase the current site for $360,000. The decision signals a major expansion for the organization in Chicago.

Valencia reportedly doomed amid wounded left unattended.
Reports from Frankfurt and Bogota allege General Fernandes seized President Marroquin of Colombia and proclaimed himself dictator. The disputed claim cites prior deposition of President Sanclemente and a failed conspiracy involving the war minister and conservatives.
