Air Force Lt Col Michael Smolen of Chandler Arizona said he was “relatively well treated” by Communist kidnappers who held him in Caracas for 87 hours. He was released Monday night near Florida district after a weekend of blindfolded confinement and no threats. Smolen appeared with his wife at a U S Embassy news conference after medical checks. Mrs. Harvey C. Miller Dies at 84 in Kalona
Mrs. Harvey C. Miller, 84, died this morning at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services are set for Friday at 9 a.m. at the Yoder residence east of Kalona with burial in Gingerich Cemetery. Surviving are five sons and five daughters, plus four brothers and two sisters. Miller was born August 24, 1880, in Indiana, married May 9, 1901, and moved to Iowa in 1931. her husband died in 1949.

Auto accident at Temple Corner near Washington
A two car collision occurred five and a half miles west of Washington on old Highway 92 this morning. Martha Ann Greiner, driving rural route 3 Keota, hit the Crawford car after encountering three autos stopped for assistance. Damages totaled $200 to Greiner and the Crawford vehicle. no injuries.
