Chicago report: five year old Charles Cole died after a window sash closed on his neck while peering into a tool house where rabbits were kept. His mother found him unconscious at the kitchen window and the sash had crushed his throat.

Meadville PA October 13 While returning home from Titusville Mr and Mrs Samuel B Winton were killed in a crossing accident on a Pennsylvania road. The couple were described as prosperous and well known in the community.
Mrs Hayden wife of Dr Ralph E Hayden and three companions were arrested on larceny charges after confessing they stole farm goods for devilment during an automobile trip in Crown Point Indiana. Police found 50 to 75 dollars worth of butter eggs apple butter linen tableware and vegetables in Hayden’s garage.
President Taft weighs United States Senator Elihu Root for the supreme court chief justice seat. No decision yet, but Root is favored and viewed as likely to accept if offered.

Louis Scherr a New York tailor killed his elder brother Harry in a Baltimore tailor shop during a long standing family feud. He slipped in unannounced, stabbed Harry with a dirk, and fled as bystanders sought a doctor. Scherr was remanded for trial. motive cited as retaliation for alleged wrongs. Harry, 25, and Louis, 22, were recent New York residents. Louis married.
Berlin reports the German government refuses satisfaction for injuries sustained after an assault on newspaper men. Officials say no apology or compensation will be issued, marking a dispute over liability and safety of press representatives.
The German government refused satisfaction to one American and three English correspondents injured during the Moabit strike riots on Sept 28. American ambassador Hill and British embassy representatives have brought the affair to Germany and will send a reply to their foreign offices.

Charles Nicey and Samuel Harris fought a pistol duel in Bristol over a small loan. Each fired six times. Harris was seriously wounded while Nicey escaped unhurt.
