A college publicity man in Columbus Ohio claimed a telegram reporting that the band and dull students would take part in a ground breaking ceremony was a typographical error not editorial bias.
Washington Camp Fire Girls and Blue Birds gave 17 dollars to the local Community Chest drive. Keith Vetter, campaign chairman, urged proportional gifts to exceed the 823 500 goal. Jesse Radda presided as entertainment featured group singing and magic tricks for 160 guests.
Washington YWCA relies on the Community Chest to fund its wide range of local services for girls and women. The drive supports swim and craft classes, youth center outings, year round pool use, and activities for all ages from grade school to Golden Age members, with emphasis on meeting local needs.
In Belgrade a Yugoslav mob stormed the U S Information Service building injuring an American diplomat. Yugoslav warships moved toward Capodistria Harbor as Zone A tensions rose after Tito warned of troops if Italian troops appeared. Newsman King was struck in the nose and his glasses broken.
FBI says Carl Hall and Bonnie Heady confessed to killing Robert Greenlease Jr after kidnapping him in Kansas City Missouri. They dug a grave before the abduction and Hall bought a grave marker. They implicate ex convict Marsh and ransom money remains unfound.
H C Finney named president at the annual Gideon officers election held during a state cabinet meeting. J Fred Moore of Columbus Junction became vice president A L Duensing was secretary treasurer and Sam Weaver of Wellman named chaplain. Des Moines Cedar Falls attendees joined Burlington guests for the dinner and meeting led by Kenneth Smith.
Mrs Milo Sorden was elected national treasurer of TTT at the national convention held Thursday to Saturday at the Radisson hotel in Minneapolis Minnesota. National officers were chosen Saturday and met Sunday morning. Mrs John Owen a Washington delegate returned home Saturday. Mrs Sorden, past state president of TTT, has long been active in the local chapter.
William Houseal son of Mrs Isador Houseal of Washington has been admitted to the state bar of Iowa. He passed his bar examinations in the state capitol building and was sworn in by Chief Justice Hayes. Houseal is now associated with Amana Refrigeration in Amana Iowa as patent counsel.
Dan Holland son of Mr and Mrs L A Holland 600 S 2nd Washington is a member of the 1953 homecoming committee at Iowa State College He serves as decorations chairman for the general committee planning activities for the weekend of October 17 18 1953.
Lincoln and Stewart school Parent-Teacher Associations plan a joint meeting at Lincoln school gym at 3 p.m. Wednesday October 14. LeRoy Larson senior teacher at the Iowa hospital school Iowa City will speak. Stewart members will receive transportation.

Over the weekend seven persons died in Iowa accidents across multiple counties. Other deaths involve a tractor rollover near Strawberry Point, a Des Moines car crash, a highway spill near Ainsworth, and a three vehicle collision near Monona.
Mrs H A Shannon died Sunday afternoon in Lees Summit Missouri after a long illness. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10 o clock in Lees Summit with burial in Elm Grove cemetery in Washington. A graveside service will follow. Surviving are husband Harvey A Shannon a son David who died in 1916 a daughter married to Navy Lieutenant B M Jones a son Stephen three brothers Merle Mealey A H Mealey Leonard Mealey and O V Klingaman and a sister Mrs Guy Argo.

Washington county Farm Bureau women hold their annual Contact Day program Wednesday October 14 at 10 am in the Farm Bureau building. Mrs Merle Twinam will conduct the session to train officers for the coming year. A salad luncheon will follow and current and incoming officers are urged to attend.
President Eisenhower plans a 10 day campaign swing to speak with farm and ranch voters across six states PA, OH, MO, KS, LA, and TX while facing farm price and drought issues. He will also visit the U S Mexico border as part of the outreach.

Mary Catherine Friese Farmerettes earned best one year clothing record with 99 points. Junior winners include Janet Ross Mary Lou Slemmons Sharon Griggs Cecelia Klopfenstein Phyllis Martin Betty Howell Phyllis Anderson Wynne Petratz Isabelle Day Nancy Schnicker Donna Sojka. Garden and longtime records also noted with multiple blue and red ribbon awards for various participants.
Lyle J. Fesler 63 of Riverside died Sunday at Mercy hospital Iowa City after a stroke at Swailes TV shop Riverside. Funeral services planned at Sorden and Adams chapel with Rev. Thomas Wolfe in charge. Burial Mt. Olivet Riverside. Survived by wife six daughters two sisters and two brothers.
Albert Gillispie was treated Saturday afternoon for cuts and bruises after the tractor he rode was hit by a truck on Coppock road seven miles south of Washington at 2 30 pm. Gillispie was not seriously hurt. The collision occurred as both vehicles traveled south. Raymond Keith Wikoff, driver of the truck owned by the Farmers Store, said he sounded his horn but Gillispie did not hear him and began to turn into a farm driveway as the truck attempted to pass.
Mrs. Don Beatty of Iowa City died this morning. Funeral services will be at 2 p m Wednesday October 14 at Jones funeral home with Dr C R Reed in charge and burial at Elm Grove cemetery. She was born April 9 1902. More details will be published Tuesday.
City police in Washington arrested Harry E. Jones Sunday on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
United Press reports fair skies in Iowa tonight with lows 38 to 43 in the northeast and 43 to 46 in the southwest. Tuesday trends show generally fair east and cloudy west with a chance of scattered showers in the southwest and extreme west, highs 70 to 75 east and 78 to 84 west. Increasing clouds and warmer conditions Wednesday with possible showers in the extreme southwest.
