London Oct 12 Reuters Berlin dispatch says powers led by Germany have secured near suspension of hostilities in Tripoli with both sides agreeing to an armistice though not yet official Italy will keep troops in Tripoli as negotiations continue and no fighting will occur.
Constantinople October 12 Shevket Pasha the Turkish minister of war said Asia Minor was not properly garrisoned because Turkey did not fear attack He noted Tripoli defense was impossible due to no fleet He refused to commit on concessions awaiting Italy demands and said mediation by powers is the most suitable path to settlement
Rome reports Derna was bombarded damaging hospitals and barracks, with many killed and wounded after an unsuccessful Italian naval landing attempt.
Oct. 12 report in railroad circles says A. A. Allen, president of Missouri Kansas and Texas, will become president of Chicago and Alton and then of Minneapolis and St. Louis after its absorption by Iowa Central. Joint management of Toledo St. Louis and Western and the Alton will end and the Toledo St. Louis and Western will yield control of the Alton.
President Taft left Tacoma for Olympia after dining with Governor Hay. He planned stops at Centralia Chehalis Castle Rock Kelso Kalama and Vancouver with many speeches, then reached Portland at five o clock and remained there until early this morning.
With about half the vote counted, woman suffrage is defeated by around 5 000. Most other twenty amendments pass. The recall, opposed by President Taft, gains 15 060 votes, the largest yay tally among amendments.

Harry Sutton a 36 year old Manchester native dies in a fire at the Excelsior Powder Mill Holmes Park Kansas City after lighting a match inside a frame building storing several tons of black powder. He escapes the flames briefly but perishes minutes later.
Dakota born William Dagner known as John Dietz was arrested at Bottineau North Dakota on contempt of court charges for entering a property in defiance of a court order. He fortified himself in a haystack during the dispute.
James B McNamara, 29, is tried for murder in the Los Angeles Times building blast. Judge Berdwell presides as 125 veniremen are questioned. D A Fredericks and Darrow clash over selecting jurors and counts. The defense seeks separate trials for the McNamara brothers.
The defense led by Clarence S. Darrow and associates vows to dismantle the prosecution’s case. They portray the two brothers as a labor leader and a rank-and-file worker and express confidence in winning freedom for their clients.

Chicago Oct 12 The Lorimer election investigation hears sensational testimony as Rep Henry Terrill says Rep John Griffin offered 1000 to vote Lorimer and Rep Richard Hagan said his vote was solicited. Sen George M McCormick recalled over a claimed 2500 payment and other alleged payments to lawmakers amid the probe.
The report details lawmakers linked to the Lorimer scandal. Senator McCormick denies corruption claims and a $2500 offer. Other officials listed include Downing Dixon Burgett Johnson Mieldstack and Charlies L Irving Park, with cross examinations cited.
Wisconsin connections emerge as the Senate committee probes the Stephenson campaign bribery charges. Attorney L. Perrin testifies he paid 250 to KR. J. Shlehls, already named in the Lootmer case. About seventy-five more witnesses are expected to be examined.
Horace Kearney of St. Louis, flying the Carlisse merophane 2S, crashed near Indiana University by a field. A crowd of 11 000 watched as his craft wrecked but he survived after an attempted record flight following a previous August St. Louis accident.

In Caruthersville, Missouri, on October 18, a mob dragged from the city jail two Black men, AB Richardson and Ben Woods. Richardson’s body was found bullet-ridden in the Mississippi River. Woods was reportedly killed in a similar fashion. Tensions had risen after robberies and an alleged assault on white women near a local store where they worked.
In Council Bluffs Iowa the Army of the Tennessee reunion elected officers led by General Grenville M. Dodge as president and Colonel Carmine Cadke as recording secretary. Major W. H. Chamberlain and Smith Mickenloper also named officers with a banquet featuring national speakers.
Westchester Pennsylvania jurors found Albert Ferry and William Gilbert not guilty of murder in the death of Zach W. The case statement notes seven trials with two yet unresolved. Dr Herman Fieter, former U.S. consul and University of Michigan regent, died at 86 in Detroit.
