After a violent altercation in Andover Massachusetts, Doheny a former Pittsburgh pitcher attacked his nurse and physicians with a stove poker. He held neighbors and police at bay for over an hour before being overpowered and committed to Danvers insane asylum. He had shown signs of insanity since deserting the Pirates and returning home.
Henry Brown a retired hotel keeper and wealthy man was mistaken for a burglar and shot by Peter Kotz in Kotz home. Brown was shot twice in the head and may not recover. Kotz surrendered to police and Brown’s condition remains critical. Nearby reports note other brief items from Lincoln to New York registrations.
