Iowa Corn Crop Estimate Raised to Record Yield
Iowa corn production prospects rose in September with the 1958 crop now estimated at 637,280,000 bushels as of Oct 1, and a record 64 bushels per acre. Soybeans hit a record 85,545,000 bushels with 27.5 bushel yield. sorghum and hay also increased. The 1958 corn crop would rank behind 1952 and 1948 records, about 42 million bushels above 1957, with harvest outlook favorable into October. Pastures remained good, drought effects limited, and feed grain stocks and carryovers adjusted for the new estimates.

The tube, weighing 1.5 ounces and 14 inches across, will radio data from Explorer IV era levels to Earth as Pioneer travels toward 40,000 miles or more.

Eisenhower Plans Golf Trip Before Columbus Day Events
President Eisenhower will end hisCamp David stay with a golf round at Gettysburg Country Club and fly to New York for Columbus Day ceremonies and a church center dedication.
