A masked bandit hid in Epworth State Savings Bank until the cashier opened the vault and fled with 10000 dollars. The cashier Frank Kleimrichs and bookkeeper Arrives were forced at gunpoint. the thief fled west on Highway 20 in a black 1951 Pontiac sedan. Sheriff Lee Martin set up roadblocks. witnesses described the suspect as over six feet tall, wearing a grey hat and jacket and grey trousers.

Don Radda Wins Tall Corn Title At 24 Foot Stalk
Don Radda, Washington county and world champion tall corn grower, won the Evening Journal tall corn contest at the Journal building. His 24 ft 2 in stalk fell short of his 1946 31 ft record. Beverly Palmer was named Tall Corn Queen by the largest vote among 252 entries. Prize winners include Ella Anderson second, C. G. Anderson third, Bill Gray fourth, Esther Gray fifth, with several others noted.
