W F Gilbert of Burlington gave an old time break down performance at the depot during yesterday's reunion. The jolly entertainer kept the crowd amused until the late train arrived. More than 100 old soldiers praised the JOURNAL and every attendee left with a copy in hand.
At the afternoon congregational meeting a unanimous call was extended to Rev H R Stark of Maywood NL to serve as pastor. Rev Williams of Columbus Junction moderated. Stark is presented as the church’s chosen pastor and comes highly recommended as a bright student and man.
A Friday Populist meeting at Smouse's Hall featured Samuel Meyers addressing political issues and hard times remedies. The Sunday School Convention drew strong attendance with Rev Blanche of Davenport giving an address on Sunday Schools and Dr Coxe delivering witty, pointed remarks. The program included praise services, a character-themed address by A EK Smith, and discussions on class incentives and resolutions noting the death of President J C Smith. Officers elected: M C Vanschoiack, D J Palmer, and Elen Smith.
