Jim Frier Washington County Extension Director attended the National Association of County Agricultural Agents annual Milwaukee meeting. He completed two years on the Public Information Committee and chaired the Iowa Extension Directors Public Information Awards program which had record entries. The Washington county Planned Parenthood book sale at the Washington Armory runs 10 to 9 today and Friday and 10 to 6 Saturday with proceeds funding family planning services.

Mid-Prairie Band to March in 1976 Mardi Gras Parade
At a recent meeting the Mid-Prairie High School band was invited to perform in the 1976 Mardi Gras in New Orleans. After school and board approval, the group departs February 26 and joins parades February 29 and March 1, returning March 2. While there they tour riverfront areas and historic sites around New Orleans.

Washington High approves stricter graduation credit requirements

Coal in Southeastern Iowa Surface-Mine Potential Revealed
State geologist Stanley Grant said new estimates show up to 10 billion tons of coal may be surface mined in a four county area of Southeastern Iowa. Current figures of 732 million tons suggest much larger deposits than previously believed and challenge the view that Iowa coal is hard to mine with low heat value or high sulfur content.

Challenge to Iowa Parochial School Busing Program
A three judge federal panel in Des Moines heard a suit by Americans United for Separation of Church and State the Iowa Civil Liberties Union Foundation and 13 individuals. They seek an injunction against using 4.1 million dollars for transporting non public school pupils and buying buses. Revelers to Open Washington Concert Association Season
The Revelers male quartet will open the 1975 76 Washington Concert Association season Saturday at 8 p.m. in the high school. They are a top national vocal group whose program includes patriotic pieces and a Revolutionary War medley.
