Keokuk County Sheriff John Bud Wallerich was hospitalized after an accidental rifle discharge tipped a boat during a hunting trip near Sigourney. His wife said the incident occurred last Wednesday when a hunting companion reached for binoculars. Dr. F L Kilburn aided in first aid.

United Press International reports four people died in Iowa traffic incidents over the weekend. Bertha Erickson 70 of Madrid died in a head on crash on Interstate 80-35. her brother Carl Westberg 59 was hospitalized along with Charles Carroll 54, both Des Moines residents. Other fatalities included Donald Bucheim 30 of Colesburg near Dubuque and Donald Breitbach 27 of rural Durango, plus Duane Hill 30 of Conway near Lenox. Hill’s two daughters survived.
