Dubuque man sentenced for second degree murder of wife
A Dubuque County District Judge sentenced Terry Beverlin, 22, to 40 years in prison for second degree murder in his wife Donna Beverlin's suffocation death last February. Beverlin was found guilty after a bench and trial and had pleaded guilty to an open murder charge. The judge said Beverlin willfully suffocated his wife without provocation.

Des Moines Man Found Guilty of Shelby Bank Robbery
John F. Grosnickel, 34, formerly of Des Moines, was convicted by a UPI reported jury in U.S. District Court of robbing Farmers State Bank in Shelby for just over $5,000. He was a fugitive from Iowa State Penitentiary at Fort Madison, serving a 10 year sentence for breaking and entering when the Aug 4 crime occurred.

DES MOINES (UPI) The Iowa Mental Health Association has dropped efforts to block a medium security prison at the Mental Health Institute in Mount Pleasant after a board discussion. In Hartford Connecticut doctors reattached the severed right hand of 18 year old Robert Huettl who told police he cut it off to punish himself for offending God. He was found by a patrolman along a Stafford highway clutching a Bible and his arm while bleeding.
