United States scout cruiser Chester reached Tripoli amid jubilation over the city’s fall to Italian forces without damage to American ships. Some sailors aboard Chester regret not being allowed to take part in the battle as Turks and Arabs withdrew.
Constantinople October 6 Said Pasha has formed a cabinet. Reshid Pasha now foreign minister and Cheyvket TFubha becomes minister of war. Khur Sid is appointed minister of marine. Reshid Pasha and Khur Sid have not notified the grand vizier of their acceptance.
Governor Deneen calls and invites governors of fourteen states to Chicago on October 27 for the fourteenth American Mining Congress session. The aim is uniform state mining laws, miner protection, reducing waste, avoiding conflict with federal legislation, and equalizing coal operator restrictions across states.
James J. Hill drove a golden spike to mark the formal completion of the Oregon Trunk line to Bend Oregon. He said Bend would not be the final terminal and predicted the line would eventually join the Pacific and Eastern whose western terminal is Medford Oregon.
In Marinette Wisconsin on October 6 the mystery of a drowned woman near Fernwood persists. She appears about fifty, strangely dressed in two underwear sets, stockings, undergarments, gloves, and a gray tailored skirt. A small vial at her neck holds a scrap of paper reading a religious plea.

He had previously flown 69 miles from Huntington to Aldine in 71 minutes. Mrs Eleanor Rodher, ex Bedord Pa, found dead in Ashland Me, and a large fire destroyed a third of Ashland's business district with losses around 100000.

In Muskogee Oklahoma on October 6 T J Kirk city marshal of Marble City was beaten to death by six men newly in jail. The assailants were reportedly drinking at the time and Kirk fought back before succumbing to the injuries.
A San Francisco wireless operator in Hillcrest and a Japanese operator on Hokushu Island exchanged messages across 6000 miles. At 2 05 am the San Francisco station detected a faint call for the Chive Mary due in Honolulu. After a brief contact the Nipponese operator responded and congratulations were exchanged before the line failed.
Boston October 6 Governor Foss commuted Edwin B Cook of Springfield to life imprisonment for the murder of Herbert White of Ludlow. Cook had been scheduled for electrocution next week after expert witnesses argued he was mentally defective and a product of adverse environment.
