Riverside man Emmett Waldschmidt dies at 62
Emmett Waldschmidt 62 of Riverside died at Mercy Hospital Sunday after pneumonia treatment. A retired farmer and World War II veteran, he will be buried at Mt Olivet Cemetery after funeral at St Marys Church Riverside Wednesday at 9 am. Rosary services are set for Tuesday evening at Sorden and Adams Funeral Chapel. He was born Feb 24 1902 in Washington County to Joseph and Viola Kueneman Waldschmidt. He leaves four brothers Ralph Earl Albert and Hubert and six sisters including Gertrude Waldschmidt and Loretta Cameron.

A primer explains how a son in the armed services can vote in the upcoming election. Application forms are provided by the armed services and must be signed on an affidavit before an army officer. Washington County Historical Society members joined a Sunday tour and picnic then held their annual business meeting. They traveled from Washington at 3 p.m. along Sockum Ridge to Walnut School for lunch before the meeting. Traffic toll in Iowa tops 600 as weekend deaths rise
Iowa's highway toll climbed to 607 for 1964, with 10 more deaths and numerous injuries reported over the weekend. The weekend fatalities include Ruth Helen Anderson 28 of Cherokee and Monte Ray Beyer 16 of Holstein among others, with crashes across multiple counties and two-car, single-car, and train collisions. Additional nontraffic injuries and a few other fatalities were recorded in Davenport Calmar Council Bluffs Dickens and Spirit Lake areas, plus a Navy petty officer injury near Potts Town Pennsylvania.
