Burlington account describes Jack Keever 45 who died by his own hand four years earlier at a cemetery. He had met his wife at Aspen Grove to discuss placing lot markers while John Schultz, a cemetery employee, and Mrs. Keever witnessed the suicide.
Walter B Bedell of Spirit Lake and brothers Len and Henry Chapman of Carroll began serving one year terms in Polk county jail on a federal jury tampering charge. Sentenced June 23 1934 by Federal Judge Charles A Dewey after a trial in which Bedell and the Chapmans bribed juror Bert Gander for 200 dollars to sway a liquor conspiracy verdict.
Enthusiasm among Iowa State students led to unruly scenes before the Ames Nebraska football game. Police used tear gas to disperse the crowd as three gas cylinders were fired into the cheering group near the New Ames theater.
Mrs H F Lange returns from the National Culbertson bridge convention in Chicago with the championship cup, becoming one of America's top duplicate contract bridge teachers. She and partner Mrs R E Thornbury of Marshalltown won as east and west. Lange and Thornbury met at an April bridge tournament where Lange previously won a cup under E E Wolfe of Cleveland.
Davenport firemen rescued a cat that fled into an open register and slid down a tin pipe, finally ending in a burning furnace. Fire crew removed pipe sections and used a hose to retrieve the animal before suffocation.

In Kenosha on October six a milk strike violence escalated with Herman Slater, 41, a farm hand and father of three, killed when a milk truck struck him while blocking a caravan of eleven trucks seven miles south of the city. The driver and ten other drivers were arrested.
The YWCA announces that Mrs. D. Pirie Beyea of Cedar Rapids will speak here Oct 17. Tickets for non members cost 25 cents. the event is part of a series offering free programs to YWCA members. Mrs Beyea, known as Scotty on radio, spoke to the Fortnightly Club on dictators she has met. She has a varied background, including wartime nursing and European heritage. Her 8:45 AM WMT radio broadcasts keep many listeners informed.

Leroy Farmer and Delbert Grubb of Cedar Rapids withdrew their appeals from Linn county convictions for illegal liquor possession. They will pay fines of 1000 each. Farmer disclosed that Harold M. Cooper supplied 204 state liquor seals to his private stock to avoid suspicion.
