Iowa farm outlook presses down hog prices while lambs rise
Iowa State University extension economist Gene Futrell predicts larger hog and beef supplies will push prices lower in 1969 while a continued drop in sheep numbers lifts slaughter lamb prices. He forecasts hog profits in early 1969 but tighter margins late, with spring pig crop growth of 3–5 percent possible. Beef demand may lag, cattle prices softening into late 1969, and feeder supplies near last year's level. In Fulton Missouri a different note, Virgil Johnston Jr. served four perfect bridge hands in one deal to four players.
