Boy 11 Confesses Drowning Playmate in California Pool
Lester Stewart, 11, confessed to drowning George Bryant, 8, in a yellowish pool at a Santa Ana River wash near Colton. He said they played hockey, argued after George insulted his mother, and he held George under water until he stopped moving. George was partially crippled from polio and had been Napa County March of Dimes poster boy in 1949. Irene Bryant, George’s mother, described them as best friends from Washington Elementary School.

Legionaires Plan For Veterans Day Observance
Members of Leon Beatty American Legion post drafted Veterans Day plans on Tuesday with Commander Burton Kent presiding. Since Veterans Day falls on a Sunday the turkey dinner shifts to Monday November 12. Benson to Launch Daring Corn Belt Speaking Tour
Secretary Ezra Taft Benson announced a revised campaign tour plan to reach farm voters in the Corn Belt.
