Dock workers return as Taft Hartley order blocks strike
About 75,000 longshoremen upended by a federal judge order resumed work in Atlantic and Gulf ports after Judge Sylvester J. Ryan issued a temporary restraining order. ILA president Theodore W. Gleason said the union would abide by the law while Ramsey Clark seeks an 80 day cooling off period. The ILA seeks higher wages, a $300 monthly pension, more guaranteed work hours and anti automation protections.
