Rogers leads new Middle East peace proposal talks

UPI reports Secretary of State Rogers pursuing an interim settlement with broad backing from the Soviet Union Britain and France. Gromyko signaled tacit approval as Rogers meets Eban and Riad during UN General Assembly week. Proposals call for a six month cease fire extension and steps toward a broader treaty. Suez Canal reopening and Israeli withdrawal terms would hinge on policing, with UNTSO revived. A six week U.S. sprint to negotiate precedes a broader peace effort. In Arnolds Park Iowa Gary Gail Reif, 21, is jailed on drug charges after a raid yielding marijuana, bond set at five thousand dollars.

Farm Bureau plans meeting October 14

The 54th Annual Washington County Farm Bureau meeting will be held Thursday October 14 at Washington Junior High School starting 8 p.m. A buffet supper begins at 6 p.m funded by Parkettes of Washington County. Free dinner tickets go to 1972 members, others may buy tickets for 1.00. Resolutions will be dispensed and officers and directors elected. William A. Guy of Blue Cross and Blue Shield Iowa will speak. Washington High Swing Band and Charles Zwicki will perform. A tornado near 10 miles southwest caused losses at Jake Moremand and Jim Deboom farms including sheds, a combine, barns, and shelters.

Weather forecast showers ending east portion tonight

Ray deflects questions on third-term plans
