Turkey Day Draws 10 000 To Wellman on Saturday
Wellman hosted more than 10 000 attendees for Turkey Day with 3 185 pounds of turkey, 400 pounds of potato chips, 400 pounds of Kalona Swiss cheese, 800 loaves of bread, six pounds of Wellman Creamery butter, 24 quarts of cream, 584 dozen cups of ice cream and hundreds of gallons of coffee. Mrs Mardelle Miller led serving from 4 to 8 pm assisted by 49 women. Mrs Franklin Brenneman named turkey queen with attendants in a second place tie. Parade featured 235 children, multiple division winners, and bands from Wellman and neighboring towns. Two Mile Parade included 135 horses and 40 ponies.

First Target Shoot Held by Arrowheads
The first annual target shoot sponsored by the Washington Arrowheads occurred at Townsley Park on Sunday afternoon drawing 14 senior and five junior entrants. Championship trophies were awarded to Lyle Quinn with 615 points and Ronald Ross with TRE points, while Bill Hammer and Kent Klopfenstein earned second place. Phil Kneen and Jim Cook placed third in the senior and junior divisions, as Curt Wells thanked local supporters Pat Bray and Dr Frank Edwards of Mt Pleasant and Dr FE C Bock of Fairfield. A large crowd watched the event at intervals throughout the day.

Former Wellman Man Taken on Saturday
WELLMAN L W Karr 55 a former resident died at 9 p m Saturday in Methodist Hospital at Des Moines. Funeral services will be held in Des Moines with burial in the Wellman Cemetery Wednesday. He was born and reared in Wellman and is survived by his wife Helen and two sisters Mrs Jeannette Booth of Princeton Ill and Mrs James Verneal Pence of Wellman.

Nixon to be Interviewed on TV During 16 Day Swing
Vice President Richard Nixon will be questioned by eight newsmen from cities on his 16 day 15 000 mile campaign tour in a nationally telecast Thursday night. The show will air at 830 p m EDT on more than 15 stations from Washington copies of motion pictures filmed on the trip will be included. Nixon traveled from St Petersburg Florida to Grand Rapids Michigan with stops including Milwaukee and Hartford Conn en route to Washington for the finale.

Man lands small plane beside Manhattan tavern

Gladwin Man Ends Life Sunday in Louisa County
Robert White of Gladwin died at 3 p.m. Sunday from gunshot wounds in the basement of his home in Louisa County. Coroner Victor Stacy and Sheriff Robert Lewis said no inquest will be held. White, born March 18, 1932, had suffered ill health and threatened suicide before the tragedy. He left his wife to run an errand, and she found him upon return. Funeral arrangements were to be handled by Fairbanks Funeral Home in Muscatine. Survivors include his wife Joy Rinnett, his mother Alice Marr, three children, brother Ed White, and sister Martha Kauffman.

Car Leaves Road At County Intersection Injures Teens
