Public meetings about a proposed bond issue will be held at Mid-Prairie elementary schools at 7:30 p.m. on December 2 West Chester, December 6 Wellman, December 9 Kalona, and December 11 Washington Township.

Michael McDonald, a former Scott County Democratic party chairman and Senate doorkeeper, was nominated to run against a Republican candidate for the Iowa Senate seat vacated by William Gluba. Arctic cold grips Iowa with record low nine below
An arctic air mass shoved Iowa to record lows with Cedar Rapids and Mason City at nine below zero. The National Weather Service warned a low pressure system would bring light snow across the northwest and much of the state by tonight as a string of record lows tied or broken from 1874 to 1929. Forecasters expect slightly higher readings tomorrow with the approaching system.
