Fire Chief Dick Willard arrived late to a downtown roof fire after the Central station truck vanished from the scene leaving him to flag down a west end unit in the street.
Detectives investigated the death of 19 year old Lou isa de Angioletti in Brooklyn after she ate turkey remnants at home. Officials labeled the case suspicious with rigor mortis appearing within half an hour of death. a physician ruled out turkey poisoning.
Iowa City police locate 12 year old Ailenn Wertz of Fort Dodge at a local hotel after he fled from his mother at the Children’s hospital. Officers forced entry to a washroom. highway patrol joined a several hour search on nearby highways.
FE. H. Harman unexpectedly becomes justice of the peace for Madison township after a single write-in vote. He does not want the job and says the position should go to a town resident, not someone who lives in the country.
Iowa artists will exhibit paintings in Chicago from January 10 to February 1 under the Iowa Federation of Women's clubs. The show will be in Carson, Pirie Scott and Co. galleries, details released by Mrs Louis Pelzer, Iowa City state art chairman. The exhibit will tour Iowa in February March and May, including Des Moines during the legislative session.
Scouts Charles Trige Tom Trige and Francis Merrit found an injured golden eagle on an island while skating. They brought the bird to McGregor Hospital where it is being cared for on a straw bed in a pen. It is fed mice during recovery.
Former Iowa governor George W. Clarke, 84, will be buried in Adel Cemetery following simple services at a local Christian church. Clarke died of uremic poisoning after four years in office.
Henry county Attorney J. W. Gray may be called to prosecute his brother Claude Gray 62 after a beer parlor brawl in Mt. Pleasant. Claude arrested Saturday night when Leslie Logan Hillsboro farmer was slashed. Logan's wife filed information as doctors treated his arm. Officers said the quarrel concerned the disappearance of Logan's gun five years ago.
Three Fayette youths entered a quarry shack near Payette and splashed each other with a jug they believed to be water. The liquid proved caustic zinc chloride used for limestone testing, injuring Archie Wood 11, who was hospitalized in Oelwein with severe facial burns and risk to his left eye.
President Roosevelt arrives in Buenos Aires to inaugurate the inter American conference for maintenance of peace. A six ship Argentine naval escort met the Indianapolis off Cape Polonia and a million and a half citizens cheered as flags bunting and flowers adorned streets. Police cleared the way for the presidential motorcade amid strains of national anthems and cheering crowds.

Pr J Wallace night marshal and fire dept member injured when a small building near the city water works burned. Wallace was tossed onto railroad tracks while managing a water filled hose as flames confined to the structure. Occupant Sidney Greenblatt was away. minor damage to nearby shops and a storage house, with insurance likely covering most losses.
Iowa taxpayers association reports 1935 costs show per capita spending on county superintendents' offices is highest in small counties. Pottawattamie leads large counties in cost, while Osceola among small counties had 32.53 cents per capita. Polk and Woodbury among large counties run 3.01 and 4.37 cents respectively.
Iowa counts 474 auto fatalities through eleven months as year ends. November deaths total 42, down from 85 in November 1935. December hiring raised 1935 total to 575, amid anti accident campaigns in Des Moines.

Lee Slaughter a Negro prisoner serving a liquor charge walked off during work outside the court house and jail. A deputy reported he entered the court house and did not return, sparking a county wide search and state police broadcast. Slaughter may have headed south to Kentucky to join his wife.
