Reports from Provincetown say the steamer Portland was wrecked on Peak Hill bar with all aboard lost. Ninety nine people were on board, including officers and crew, and two bodies washed ashore at Highland Light. Thirty eight hours later the Mackinaw rescued more survivors as twenty seven vessels were driven ashore in the storm near this point.
