Red Cross First Aid Course Certifies Waco School Staff

Missouri Mule Joins West Point Mascot Corps

No January draft as Laird predicts small 1973 total
Defense Secretary Melvin Laird said no one will be drafted in January and the six month draft total for 1973 will be under 10,000, projecting a fiscal year total near 50,000 as the draft ends June 30. He expects volunteers to fill active duty after that date but warned Congress may need enlistment bonuses for National Guard and reserves to avoid a post June 30 draft. The reserves and Guard are about 45,000 short of authorized strength.

Combines Burned On Washington County Farms
Two combines were badly damaged by flames on Washington County farms early today as farmers rush to harvest before weather changes. At about 2 a.m. a fire at Myron Shields farm north of Washington destroyed Leonard Tindal’s combine on Highway 1. A second blaze at 6 a.m. east of West Chester damaged Dick Stewart’s combine on land he owns along Highway 92 near a home of Tom Thomas.
