Senate Republicans oust four independents from party roles

At a Washington conference, Senate Republicans voted to exclude Robert M. La Follette and three allies Ladd Brookhart and Frazier from future party committees and conferences. Porter Tarver Dies in Wilton Junction Train Accident

Muscatine, Nov 28 The Rock Island porter brakeman John Tarver of Rock Island Illinois was killed when his head was crushed between two passenger coaches at Wilton while aligning a knuckle during a coupling. Brakeman F L Kennedy witnessed the tragedy. Tarver, about 50, died instantly.

Plans for weekly U.S. Europe air mail via Zeppelin

Berlin reports that a weekly mail Zeppelin service between the United States and Europe is to begin. Dr Hugo Eckner, head of the Zeppelin Company, says the venture will carry about half a million letters per week at 25 cents each, with no passenger service planned for now.

California to Compile Statewide Bootlegger Directory

Iowan Fatally Hurt While Out Hunting

Waterloo, Nov. 28. Ivan B. Pederson, 22, of Waterloo, was fatally injured while pigeon hunting on a friend's farm. He jumped into the line of fire behind a water tank as birds came into range. Death occurred about two hours after injury. The coroner's jury found no blame on Glessner and no inquest was needed.

Howard Home Damaged by Fire North of Rock Island

The Mrs Delphin Howard residence just north of the Rock Island coal chute suffered substantial roof damage from a fire discovered in the afternoon. Firemen extinguished the blaze using chemicals after smoke and flames spread from a chimney spark.

Eight Die In Chicago Area Crossing Wrecks

Two railroad crossing crashes near Chicago killed eight people and left two with serious injuries. An Aurora car party of five was struck by a Burlington train. four died and one survivor was near death. A Lombard party of four was hit by a Northwestern train. three women died and two men injured. Cause undetermined. Major W M Brewer may have caused the Aurora crash by pulling onto tracks after a freight cleared.

Justice Department Budget Plans for Des Moines State Office

Des Moines reports the Iowa Attorney General proposes a two year budget of 214 900 dollars for the state department of justice with 88 900 for salaries and travel 75 000 for the bureau of investigation 24 000 for state agents and 15 600 for a contingent fund to cover uncertain litigation costs.

Burglar Killed by Omaha Police in Piggly Wiggly Job

Omaha police Burke and McDermott shot and killed an unidentified burglar during a pistol battle at the Piggly Wiggly on Farnam Street after three men attempted a break in. The other two fled while officers had been stationed nearby on a tip about the store burglary.

Farmer's Union Plans Countywide Membership Drive

The Farmer's Union launches a countywide membership drive starting Monday December 1 with meetings at Richmond Riverside Wellman Wellston Crawfordsville and Washington. Washington meeting Saturday at 2 PM likely at the courthouse open to the public with special programs. President Ernest Carlson says merchants are invited to share problems and listen as the group focuses on marketing grain and livestock and strengthening marketing organizations.

State in Hough Case Claims Evidence to Prove Murder

Bedford Indiana November 28 The state plans to introduce evidence to extend circumstantial proof that Carl Hough murdered Lillian McKenney of Herrick South Dakota and to present a motive. Five physicians testified the girl was strangled with visible fingermarks and a fatal blow to the back of the head likely caused unconsciousness before death. The jury spent the evening at a theatre after Judge Fuller approved the day's proceedings.
