Washington UPI America s second weather satellite Tiros II is performing well and NASA officials may accelerate plans for more advanced weather stations in space. Tiros II launched from Cape Canaveral at 5 13 am CST and after 4 5 hours sent back cloud pictures from over 400 miles up. The first images covered the Dakotas and northern Plains as weather officials weigh their usefulness for forecasting hurricane and storm tracking. NASA had planned a 1961 Tiros and 1962 Nimbus satellites but officials now consider speeding up the program due to Tiros II s success.
