Car Wreck on Curve Kills Two Men in Harlan Area
Herbert Custer 47 died when the auto overturned on a curve of Highway 49 south of Harlan. William Juhl suffered a severe head injury and was found unconscious 60 feet from the wreck. Coroner Dr. A L Nielson said Custer died immediately and Juhl collapsed after attempting to seek help.

Hold Driver After Woman Is Killed
John Kistenmacher, 22, of Rock Island Illinois, is held for investigation by Muscatine county authorities in the death of Mrs Dora Hoffiman of Muscatine who was struck by a car on Highway 61 outside Muscatine. He was arrested when he entered Davenport on the highway 12 minutes after the sheriff called police. Passengers Clifford Phillips 27 and Filoria Ricketts 17 were turned over as material witnesses.

Memorial Services For Ringsted Men
Memorial services were held in the Ringsted opera house for two local soldiers killed in action in the European theater. Pvt. Harry A. Summers, 26, and Pvt. Harry J. Johnson, 25, died in battle with the 5th Army. Summers likely in North African landings and Johnson on October 23 in Italy.

Three Men Drown In Raccoon River Near Adel
Three Des Moines men who worked as guards at the air forces storage depot drowned in the Raccoon River near Adel on Saturday night. The victims were Lloyd A. Walker 5 Billy Joe Dawson 29 and Arlo William Buck 46. The flat-bottomed boat they rode in apparently foundered in shallow water.

Six Rock Truck Drivers Fined For Stop Sign Violations

Lieut Bob Conner son of Major and Mrs Walter G Conner of Washington earned his wings and a second lieutenant commission at Spence Field Georgia as part of a 269 member class.
