A coroner's jury in Muscatine ruled Sandy Cooley of Montpelier died from injuries in an unavoidable accident after being struck by a car driven by Wilbur Nicholson, 28, formerly of Washington. Cooley had stepped into the street near his home while returning to work in Moline, Illinois, after visiting his parents.
The old McKeown bridge on Muscatine county road C east of Conesville will be dismantled by Roe Island Industrial Movers Inc of Rock Island TI. Muscatine County Board sold the bridge for 425 dollars. planks will be hauled to the county yard while metal portions are salvageable. The structure opened in December 17% and a new bridge nearby was completed.
Des Moines reports Secretary of State Melvin D. Synhorst will run for a third term. At 37, he plans to enter the Republican primary next June, ending speculation about bids for governor or lieutenant governor.
Funeral services for Mrs. Etta Jones are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday at Friends church near Pleasant Plain with Rev. Calvin Hull presiding. Burial will follow in Howard Grove cemetery west of Pleasant Plain. The body rests at Omar Hoskins funeral home in Brighton until Thursday afternoon, then moves to the Jones home. A prayer service will be held at the Jones home Friday morning from 10 a.m. to the church ceremony.
Fire destroyed a West Burlington Walnut Co. factory in Burlington early today. The one story frame building burned to the ground with damage estimated at 40000 dollars. Paul Rucker, the plant manager, said part of the loss covered machinery. The company is a Hartzell Industries subsidiary in Piqua Ohio and makes walnut gun stocks.
Mrs. Bessie S. Capps filed a divorce bill alleging her husband went fishing 42 times but returned with only two fish, a claim highlighting alleged neglect of marital duties in Knoxville Tennessee.
A large crowd attended the Legion pancake and sausage supper at the Legion hall on Tuesday evening. Marion K. Rapp won a dressed turkey as a door prize, with knives donated to the post kitchen. In Panmunjom the Communists tentatively accepted a UN proposal to end the Korean War within 30 days. A counterproposal was close to the allied plan, with a recess to study differences. Both sides seek a fire line if agreement on armistice terms is reached within 30 days. Main issues remain supervision of terms and prisoner exchange.
Romania accused a U S Air Force transport of violating its border but did not confirm if the missing C 47 with four Americans aboard went down behind the iron curtain. Yugoslav air searches failed to locate the aircraft and the U S embassy in Belgrade noted claims of shooting by Hungarian border guards.

A Iowa jury found Oral Ulin not guilty of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated in the July 8 1951 Wellman arrest case. The verdict followed a Monday arraign ment and two day trial with Judge’s instructions and closing arguments. Ulin, released on bond, faces a related second charge pending trial.
Pfizer researchers report a synthetic sow milk called terralac containing terramycin that speeds piglet weaning and increases litter sizes. The formula aims to raise more pigs per sow and boost pork and bacon output, with feeding costs about 25 cents per pound. Washington's YMCA will be closed for Thanksgiving.

Eleven Korean war brides and their babies traveled toward America from Tokyo with their husbands in the American military advisory group in Korea. The group, set to arrive tomorrow, faced their first plane trip and meeting mothers in law as they left Korea after marriages authorized last February.
