Telluride Colorado reports a Smuggler Union Mine disaster after a fire in the Bullion tunnel. About 200 workers entered the mine. 170 escaped, seventeen bodies recovered by 6:30 pm. engineer Hugh J. O Neill found alive but not expected to recover.
A Santa Fe wreck near Franconia Arizona killed seven trainmen and injured three passengers and fourteen crew. Two trains at full speed collided. three engines were crushed and burned. dining cars and porters were lost. At Los Angeles headquarters blame appears on the west bound train crew. no passengers hurt.
In Bentop five miles west of Schuyler Nebraska on the Union Pacific, a freight wreck yesterday left Fireman C. B. Hodge badly injured with internal injuries and bruises. A tramp, R. Heden, had a crushed leg. Five other crewmen were severely bruised. Two engines and five loaded cars were demolished due to an open switch.

Des Moines reports the death of Colonel Dorus M. Fox at his Des Moines home aged 84. Born in Jefferson county New York, he began in Detroit before statehood, led the Twenty seventh Michigan in the Civil War, later ran publishing ventures from Chicago to New York and Ottumwa, and in 1889 became registrar of the government land office in Des Moines.
In Guthrie Oklahoma Territory on November 21 complaints to the United States marshal seek protection for colored homesteaders who drew claims in the recent government land lottery. Despite a promise by U S Attorney Horace Speed to cancel homestead entries for anyone evicting a colored claimant, more than 100 colored homesteaders have been run out of the area.
A. W. Tutts, feed store proprietor, sought to stop Pere Marquette from laying track on Water street but workers laid it Sunday before the injunction. Sheriff had to fetch Tick et Agent W. R. Shirley in Mill Grove to serve papers.

Mrs. Ella Witting won a divorce from Henry F. Wittigg in Judge Fawcett's court after proving he married her solely for her money. Wittigg, a wholesale house employee, took her bank funds the day before the wedding and vanished after the ceremony.
In Muskegon Michigan a six week old baby is in custody of authorities after two women Rosie Cox and May Burns claim parenthood. Cox was arraigned for shop lifting while Burns remains at large and is said to have supplied information implicating an organized gang of thieves.

It is reported that the Milwaukee railroad has purchased the fifty mile line from Decorah to West Union on the Burlington Cedar Rapids and Northern. Through trains from Chicago to St Paul will operate through Decorah.
