Rockefeller son missing after voyage near Dutch New Guinea

Michael Rockefeller and Dutch ethnologist RS Wassink were swept from a native prahu at the Islands River. Wassink was rescued. Rockefeller, 23, remains missing as Dutch naval and air units search the Arafura Sea amid difficult currents and poor radio contact. Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller travels toward the Pacific to assist.

Mrs Keith Wells of Keota Dies After Illness

Mrs Keith Wells 46 of Keota died Sunday in Keokuk County Hospital after a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Federated Church Keota with Rev David Van Wagner officiating. Burial in Elm Grove Cemetery Washington. Powell Funeral Home Keota in charge. Memorial fund established in memory of Mrs Wells. Margaret Alice Crayne born January 7 1915 near West Chester daughter of Floyd and Anne Cherry Crayne. She attended local schools and graduated Washington High School 1933. She married Keith Wells June 24 1936 and they've lived in Keota since 1947 where her husband owns Keota Food Center. She was a member of Presbyterian Church PEO Pythian Sisters VFW Auxiliary and Federated Kensington Club. Survivors include her husband two daughters Mrs Lyle McKenzie Lansing and Sue Ann at home one son William Charles at home her Washington parents one brother William J Crayne Washington and one sister Mrs Edwin J Peiffer Keota plus grandmother Mrs Emma Cherry Washington.

Father of Nine Killed Moving Tree in Iowa

Freeman John Fink 46 of New Albin was killed when a large tree he was moving with a bulldozer flipped, throwing him from the seat. The machine kept running and wedged against the tree. his body was found about two hours later. He is survived by his widow, his father and two brothers.

Union Thanksgiving Service Thursday at First Presbyterian Church

The Union Thanksgiving service sponsored by the Washington Ministerial Association will be held Thanksgiving morning at a.m in the First Presbyterian Church. Rev Harold DeVries of the host church will preside, Rev Ray Blair of the Associate Presbyterian Church will read Scripture and offer the prayer, and Dr Vernon Elgin of Marion Avenue Presbyterian Church will deliver the sermon titled Thanksgiving Troika. Kennedy Returns To Capital After Western Tour

President Kennedy returned to Washington from a western speaking tour and headed into urgent Berlin crisis talks with West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer. He landed at Andrews Air Force Base at 8 13 am EST amid light snow and traveled by limousine due to overcast skies. He spent Sunday in Los Angeles and spoke by phone with Secretary of State Dean Rusk before attending mass and preparing for the talks on Adenauer and Dominican unrest.

Heart Attack Fatal To Former Riverside Man

Glen Marsh Meeks 57 of Iowa City died after a heart attack at the hospital Sunday morning. A Riverside native, he had lived in Des Moines Cedar Rapids before moving to Iowa City in 1954 where he ran a real estate office. He was born April 20 1904 in Riverside and survived by a son Terry and several siblings. Graveside rites by the American Legion Post of Riverside will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

Coast Guard details bluebelle sinking and Harvey actions

11 year old Terry Jo Duperrault described seeing her mother and brother bleeding on the cabin floor as the Bluebelle sank after Captain Julian Harvey abandoned the family. Harvey later killed himself in a Miami motel as the dinghy drifted away and the girl survived in a life raft.

Thousands of East German troops police militiamen and workers labored to reinforce the East West Berlin line with tank traps and a deeper wall. The Brandenburg Gate was cemented six feet thick and six feet high while tram lines were removed to hinder escape.
