Russell Van Vliet Dies In St Paul Funeral Rites Planned
Funeral services for C. Russell Van Vliet 68 of St Paul Minnesota will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Stacy Funeral Home Columbus Junction with Rev Robert Parris officiating. Burial will be in Columbus City cemetery. He died November 18 in St Joseph Hospital St Paul after being born July 31 1896 in Columbus Junction. He married Ruby Herst on August 23 1933 and lived in St Paul since. He is survived by his wife and numerous cousins in the area. A note: bears vary in color but are black bears.

Texan survives 167 ft dive from Brooklyn Bridge
Marvin Holliman of Fort Worth Texas dove 167 feet into the East River from the Brooklyn Bridge and survived with mainly a back bruise. He was rescued by three patrolmen and placed under psychiatric observation at Bellevue Hospital. Holliman compared himself to Johnny Weissmuller, while his sister called him an average swimmer.
