Meyer Bluestein noticed a small black dog in the rain, brought it inside his Los Angeles department store. The next day the dog sat in a display window amid $200 worth of chewed women's clothing, while Bluestein assumed the tune of that dog song will haunt him.
Granville Smith testified that Walter Mayer and the late John Wisdom discussed killing a man after Wisdom complained of being crossed in a hog deal in October 1952. Mayer is charged with shooting Wisdom during a dispute over a sheep deal on Wisdom's 00 acre Des Moines area ranch.
In Springfield Missouri residents wary after 12 deadly cobras appeared, a 7 foot 3 inch boa was found under a porch. Police shot the snake after a dramatic sighting near Mowrers pet shop and Southwest Missouri State College student Bill Dickey reported the encounter.

The UN hopes Russia will allow a secret big power talks process to proceed with a Tuesday delay.
Agriculture Secretary Ezra Taft Benson said his main aim in reorganization is to strengthen the Soil Conservation Service and he cited broad support for the move. He spoke at Offutt Air Force Base during a drought tour, saying the drought emergency program is working and seeks to prevent livestock producers from going out of business.
W A Stewart 79 a former Keota resident died Sunday in Monmouth Illinois after a four year illness. He was a prominent farmer and stockman in Keota and lived in several states before settling in Monmouth. Funeral set for November 18 in Keota Christian church with burial in Keota cemetery. He leaves a large family including children Warren Gerald Myrtle Milford Merlin Vida Helen Jean Janet and two step children Iva and Dora plus many relatives. He was born May 17 1874 in Washington county and survived by two sisters and two brothers and 18 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
Estle Riley of Washington appeared before Judge Patterson on an OMVI charge. He was fined 300 dollars plus costs and given a 60 day suspension of his drivers license. Vaughn V. Smith of route 1 Ainsworth was fined 500 dollars for a second OMVI offense by Judge Patterson. His license was suspended for six months.

Mrs Edward Shettler 76 of Kalona died at her home Sunday after a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at East Union Mennonite church with Rev D J Fisher officiating. Burial in East Union cemetery. Survivors include her husband three daughters three sons twenty grandchildren and one great grandchild with relatives in Kansas and Ohio.
The Chamber of Commerce banquet Thursday November 19 features former Washington high school coaches and players. Art Dickinson of Cedar Falls, who led the 1922 undefeated Washington team, will appear with player George Freshwaters, a former Washington coach, and sheriff Charles Snyder, an all state lineman coached by Freshwaters. Tickets are on sale at the Chamber office at $1.50 per adult for two dinners, one for the attendee and one for a squad member. The dinner is at YMCA at 6 30 p m.

Rep. Thomas E. Martin of Iowa City announced his campaign for the Republican nomination to the U S Senate. He has traveled nearly 20 000 miles and plans to visit every Iowa county before the primary. He will be in Des Moines three days this week with stops in Marshalltown Cedar Rapids and Clinton on upcoming days.
