Nebraska man named new Washington YMCA director
Gordon Metzger of Hastings Nebraska will become executive director of the Washington YMCA. The 43 year old Lincoln native starts December 19 with a contract set for the new year. Metzger has expanded Hastings programs to include day camps senior citizen camps and a Bible camp and has prior YMCA experience in Denver and Hastings. He and his wife Sandy have two sons and multiple foster children.

Plea of guilty in Wellman painting spree case
A Wellman man, Jimmy D. Litwiller aged 19, pleaded guilty to criminal trespass for a February vandalism spree that damaged more than 100 dollars including the Wellman Savings Bank. Army recruiter critically hurt in U S 218 crash
A 25 year old Army recruiter from Middletown, David L. Smith, was critically injured Monday night in a one car crash on U S Highway 218 about a mile north of Iowa Highway 22. He suffered a skull fracture, broken ribs, a left ankle and both forearms and was in critical condition at University Hospitals in Iowa City. Deputy Ted Fedler said the car went out of control, flipped and rolled, traveling 177 feet before stopping in a ditch. He was thrown through the windshield and tree branches.
