In ElNora Indiana Reverend Grant Spears grew angry when a car blocked his driveway and wrote down its license number and description. He then learned an armed robbery occurred at the nearby garage and gave his notes to police. Two holdup men were arrested in Jasper Indiana in the same hour.
At least eight people were killed in Iowa traffic accidents over the weekend with another dying of earlier injuries. Names include Mrs. Dan Paradise of Sioux City and 11 year old James Shadiley of Council Bluffs. The 1955 toll stood at 531 compared with 527 last year.
The Chicago stock yards reported the largest influx of hogs in nearly 12 years with 32 000 hogs on the scene and similar runs at 11 other major terminals. About 170 000 hogs were on sale across 12 markets as prices declined from 13 dollars per hundredweight to as low as 12 banked down to 13. Market men warned the high supply would continue.

Milwaukee police report a 41 year old plumber described as an ideal family man killed his wife Mildred 40 and children Bonnie Lynn 12 Cynthia 10 and Thomas 8 then set fires at his downtown plumbing supply store and home before shooting himself in the head Chief Emil Bartes said Buckethal used motor oil to ignite fires and a .22 pistol to kill his family and himself in Shorewood early morning.

The plane crash near Colfax, Colorado triggers federal investigations and possible state murder charges.
Washington County women donate time to the local hospital and the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City as Gray Ladies. Mrs. Ralph Martin chairs the effort which totaled 428 hours in a month and 1,310 since July 1, with groups serving at both Iowa City and Washington County Hospitals and a separate Ainsworth unit.
Cedar Rapids police charged 24 year old Joe Frazier of Hiawatha with assault with intent to do great bodily injury after beating his wife. The woman, in fair condition, crawled to a phone and moaned for help before officers arrived and took her to St Luke's Hospital.
A fire starting from an oil stove on the second floor of the Iowa Public Service Co. building damaged two main street structures in Charles City. It spread to the Morgan Apparel Shop and destroyed the Elite Beauty Shop upstairs while first floors suffered smoke and water damage. Fire officials reacted by 5:30 am and had the blaze under control about two hours later. Firefighter Allen Steffler was overcome by fumes and hospitalized in good condition. no damage estimate yet.
Gary Doak a 14 year old Washington high school freshman was injured Saturday afternoon near Packwood when his 4 10 shotgun slipped and discharged striking him on the right shoulder. He is at Ottumwa General Hospital likely to remain a week and may need a skin graft.

Mrs Belle Williams 88, a former Columbus City resident, died Sunday at her daughter’s home in New London. Born February 23 1867 in Kentucky, she was the daughter of Rev J H Painter. Survived by three sons Frank Fred Verle and five daughters including Mrs John Crawford Mrs Wes Corey Mrs Leola Sal Mrs Grace Brimmer and Mrs Mable Nelson. Burial set in Columbus City cemetery. time not yet announced.
